The news of a barbed wire booby trap on the popular Merlin View trail in Bragg Creek was met with shock and disgust when it was initially published.
The story the injured rider told was also met with a lot of skepticism. There were too many holes, strange coincidences and no proof to back up the statements.
So someone decided to string up barbed wire right at neck length at a very popular local mountain bike trail system in Bragg Creek. As a new rider this is both very disturbing and extremely worrying.
Unfortunately one rider was injured. Luckily he was standing out of his seat, so it hit his shoulder instead of decapitating him. The local police and the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association will be doing their best to find the culprit.
I am planning to go riding there early Sunday morning. I will still be going. As a new rider, the last thing I need to be worrying about is booby traps meant to hurt me. There are more than enough obstacles on the trail that can do that.
If someone has a legitimate problem with mountain bikers (riding on bike specific trails by the way), there are much better ways of going about voicing your opinion. Maliciously and purposefully trying to hurt people is not the way to do it.
